Woods - The First Thought in Accident Repairs, by Treating People as People and Cars As Our Own.

Careers at Woods

Does this sound like you?

A passion to learn, a willingness to apply what you have learned to your job, being keen to succeed, and accepting personal responsibility for yourself and your actions are all critical qualities that will enable you to have a challenging and rewarding career at Woods.

Career Opportunities

The opportunities available at Woods are many and varied, as we offer positions to new apprentices through to experienced tradespersons. To be a "Super" Tradesperson - whether it be in panel or paint - capable of showing others the very best ways to do things is critical to our success and a foundation for our business success.
You may be interested in sharing responsibility for others, and seek a career in managing one of our branches with others as a Production Coordinator, Assistant Manager or Branch Manager.
Alternatively, opportunities for involvement in the Administration side of the business - branch information systems, finance and human resources being examples - also exist.

Career Progression

A number of people within Woods will support your career in a number of ways including:

  • Discussing your career options with you through your Individual Development Plan;
  • Identifying and providing training and learning which builds on and develops the skills and knowledge you have (again via the Individual Development Plan);
  • Tracking and checking progress on your career.

The people who can support you in your career include your co-workers, Assistant Managers, Branch Managers, Regional Managers as well as members of the Human Resources/ Development team.

But at the end of the day your career and development depends largely on one person - YOU!

If you are prepared to let people know the direction you want your career to head, realistically assess the skills and knowledge you currently have, and are prepared to have a "red hot" go at:

  • trying to do the very best you can in your current role;
  • learning new things, trying different ideas out and seeking to improve the ways things are done;
  • listening to others who can help you, and sharing what you learn with others;

then only your own thinking and aspirations limit the career opportunities available at Woods.

International Employment Opportunities

Over the last two years we have truly become a multi national and multi-cultural company, and now employ people from The Republic of South Africa, China and the United Kingdom. And this is only the beginning!!

The people now with us started as panel beaters and spray painters. Pleasingly, today a number of these people have been promoted to Leading Hand and Foreman positions and we don't believe that they will stop there as they seek higher management roles with us. We think they have a great chance of being successful … simply because they want to succeed. Your career and development in the main depends on YOU.

Whose here?

To date we have approximately 24 people from the above mentioned countries and are keen to hire many more International "recruits", because great people will enable our business to flourish into the future.

How big is "BIG"?

Please recognise that we appreciate how "big" the decision is to come to a new country. Adjusting to the Aussie culture, working in different workplaces, living in a new house, finding schools and areas that suit the family's needs, finding and meeting new friends, leaving family and old friends are just some of the things that go into the "mix" that makes your choice of a position in another country a tough one.

We understand this and recognise that the choices are tough and the "settling in" period can take a while. That's why we try to help where we can by answering your questions and/or referring you to a range of different connecting web sites that may help you. Clearly we can't make this decision for you but what we will try to do is give you as much information as we possibly can.

We can "go" on about this, but feel free to contact us via this site. Ask us your questions and we will do our very best to answer you as quickly and promptly as we can.

Other resources available

There are a number of sites we suggest you visit to find out more about Melbourne (our city) Victoria (our state) and Australia (our country).

Once you have identified some Melbourne suburbs, you can go to a real estate site such as http://www.realestate.com.au to look at properties. Our suggestion is that you pick suburbs that are fairly central in the overall Melbourne metropolitan spread. You should try to match these suburbs/areas within reasonable travelling distance to as many Woods branch locations as possible.

If car sales are your "thing", go to http://www.carsales.com.au/ to get an impression of prices for cars that will suit your specific needs.

Note that a lot of these sites have a number of search criteria which allow you to narrow your search down as you please.

For removalist services and other general commercial enquiries
we suggest you try Melbourne's online business telephone directory http://www.yellowpages.com.au/

The Australian Customs Department website page for visitors and migrants to Australia http://customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4224 will answer all of your questions about duties or tax payable on goods brought into Australia.

These sites are just a start and there are many other search engines to which you can refer to find out more information. Remember feel free to ask us.
